Why Choose Me?
Experience
I have experience as a personal tutor and as a volunteer classroom assistant. I have also been a reading mentor, behaviour mentor, prefect and ran student societies in Sixth Form. I have a well worked-out approach to tutoring, I am well prepared, and have the resources and dedication to teach all abilities.
Relatability
A much older tutor who isn't a student themselves can fail to appreciate the struggles of the tough new 9-1 GCSEs and new A-Level specs. I sat my GCSEs just a few years ago - so I sat the same specification and exam boards as the current GCSE students. This gives me a level of familiarity with the courses that you can't find with a much older graduate tutor. This also makes me more approachable and informal than a graduate tutor which can help students who struggle with their personal and academic confidence.
Proven Results
I achieved nine new-spec GCSEs at grade 9, and two old-spec GCSE at A* and A using the same revision resources and techniques that I use when teaching my tutees. This approach worked for me and my other high-achieving peers and can see people achieve excellent results regardless of their starting-point.

I carried the same approach over to A-Level and achieved A*A*A* in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, winning me entry onto the highly competitive Chemistry & Physics Masters programme at the University of St Andrews.
Resources
I can offer physical and online revision resources tailored to any student's needs. For online teaching, I have a webcam mounted in front of a blackboard which I can use to draw diagrams and work through questions with the student.
Safeguarding
I take safeguarding very seriously. For this reason, I take the following action:

-
All of my in-person tutoring sessions are conducted in neutral, public places such as the Forum Library in Towcester.
-
Where it isn't possible to meet in this way, I can travel to your home provided it is in the Towcester Area and provided there is a shared space I can tutor in, such as a kitchen/dining room or office.
-
For online tutoring, all calls take place over Zoom at pre-arranged times. I do not take calls that are not pre-arranged with the parent(s) of the tutee and I record my side of the video and audio during every call, both for reference and as a safeguarding measure.
-
I am awaiting full DBS check clearance
Pricing
A graduate tutor can easily set you back £30 per hour, with online-only tutors through services like Tutorful costing £22 per hour on average.

My basic rate is only £15 per hour. If your household is experiencing financial difficulty, or you have a child with excellent academic potential but cannot afford tuition, contact me about concession rates.

Personal support for students should be accessible to everyone and I endeavour to make that possible.

Payment can be taken by bank-transfer or PayPal. Please contact me for details.
About Me
My Background
I have lived in the Towcester area my entire life and attended Nicholas Hawksmoor followed by Sponne School and later Sponne Sixth Form.
My Job
I tutor because it is what I really enjoy doing. Many children don't get the one-on-one time they need to help them achieve and I feel that as a student myself I am best placed to support them. After all, I was in their shoes not too long ago!
My Ambitions
A career in Academia is my end goal, but at the moment I am enjoying teaching my tutees and my degree. In my spare time, I am exploring philosophy and literature.
The Tutoring Process
Step 1: Meeting the student and parent(s)/guardian(s)
The First step is to have an informal meeting somewhere public or to talk over the phone with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and/or prospective tutee. This is to establish the subjects the student wants to work on, the level they are working at, and their targets/ambitions so that I can prepare the right resources.
Step 2: Arranging Times and Details

I can be very flexible with times. Although I would encourage you to stick to roughly the same time on the same day for regular tutoring, I can be as flexible as needed. I can meet either at your home (provided there is a shared space we can work at), in a public place or I can teach online.

I recommend one or two one hour sessions per week for most students, at a time to suit you. One-off sessions are also perfectly fine although the best results come from regular contact.

At this stage I will give you my bank details and we can exchange any other information necessary.
Step 3: Teaching the student
I will use the materials I have prepared to teach the student at the pre-arranged time(s).

The topic for each session is decided by the student depending on what they are interested in and/or what they feel they need to work on.

Alternatively, I can focus on particular subject areas if that is what the student's parent(s)/guardian(s) want.

I utilise revision books, online materials and worksheets,
and my own notes to teach the student. I can also supply further reading/work/videos to support the student outside of tutoring time.

Some students will see instant results, some will take a few sessions to come out of their shell, but results will come!
